about us
Drop Tow hitches are made by Specialty Towing in Melbourne.
The Drop Tow Hitch was initially invented specifically to overcome the door opening issue with the NS and NT Pajero.
Mitsubishi are aware of the problem and sell a new bracket for the spare wheel which raises it about 40mm. This further reduces the visiblity through the rear window and to be honest spoils the rear view of the vehicle for most of its "on road"life.
Many hours were spent designing / fabricating and patenting the original prototype.
Through our sales network at Specialty Towing Solutions we have realised the rear door access problem applies to a much wider range of vehicles. It depends on whether your tow bar is a true "OEM" supplied or an after market one fitted by a tow bar supplier. Some Pajero clients still need the Drop Tow Hitch for the new "DO 35" coupling as they still can't get the door past the camper handbrake.
There are variations between heights of manufacturers tow bars and after market models. This fact seems to contribute to the problem but the issue is generally the type of vehicle and how its setup. Has it been lifted?
Customer feedback identified we needed more articulation upwards for levelling. This has been addressed and the Mark 4 design gives 35 degrees of upward movement and 45 degrees of downward. No more unhitching for an overnight stop.
Considerable testing has been carried out on various vehicles.
We have now developed a range of shorter drop tow hitches specifically engineered for Honda CRV, Toyota RAV4, Mitsubishi Outlander, and a wider range of vehicles. It is important you measure your current hitch to match it as closely as possible to the drop tow hitch for your vehicle. These dimensions change with various towbar manufacturers so our vehicle selections in the left column are only to be used as a guide.
The current drop hitch has been computer designed and engineered with a safety factor of 4:1.
The Drop Tow Hitch from Specialty Towing is rated at 2500kgs towing capacity with a towball weight of 250kgs and will be available in 3 sizes.
It has been fully tested and complies to ADR62, peace of mind no insurance issues.
The current drop tow hitch is intended for use with the AT35 coupler, Tregg, Hyland and DO35 coupler or similar and any standard 50mm ball coupling like Jayco use. The drop tow hitch is suitable for level rides systems that attach to the hitch using the standard 20mm bolt on the towball or coupling system eg, ezi lift. You will need to unhook the level ride bars for the Drop Tow Hitch to operate.
The drop tow hitch is not intended to replace the heavy duty Hayman Reese weight distribution setup
required for big on road caravans.
The drop tow hitch is not an height adjustable system, it is a fixed ride height.
We offer you a "money back guarantee" if not satified with the performance and quality of our product.
